The Premier Soccer League (PSL) is set to kick off in Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 with the first ever title fight. PSL is a professional soccer league that is contested annually by teams representing various parts of the country.

 Different cities get to host different editions of the league and this time around, Karachi will be hosting the inaugural edition. The question on everyone’s mind is: How many teams will be competing in PSL 2023? Well, here’s your answer. As of now, it has been announced that 10 teams will be participating in PSL 2023. This number could change at any point before the tournament starts but for now, it’s all we know. So keep an eye out for updates as we get closer to the tournament!

Who will be the teams?

There will be twenty teams in the current PSL.
The eight franchises that are competing in the inaugural edition of the PSL have been allocated to eight different provinces across Pakistan. The other ten franchises have been awarded to private companies and individuals.
Each franchise will have a minimum of fifteen players and a maximum of twenty-four players.

Teams will be drawn from each province based on their population size. The franchises that are based in Karachi and Lahore, for example, will have an advantage over those who are based in Peshawar or Quetta due to their larger population sizes.The teams will be announced in the coming months.

The fixtures

1. There will be ten teams in the PSL season. This is as per the provisional list released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday.

2. The final team lineup for PSL 2019 has not been announced yet, but it is believed that there will be at least seven franchises from Pakistan and three franchises from overseas.

3. Peshawar Zalmi, who were crowned champions of the inaugural edition of the PSL, are not part of this year’s tournament as they are going through their own league reconstruction process. Karachi Kings and Islamabad United, who finished in second and third place respectively last season, have been retained while Quetta Gladiators were auctioned off to a private party ahead of the start of their new campaign.

4. The match schedule for PSL 2019 has not been finalized yet but it is expected that there will be seventeen games played in total including playoffs if required.

Which teams will qualify for the PSL?

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to start from February 14th and will have a total of eight teams. The first four teams qualify automatically while the last four teams are through Qualifiers. Full schedule and all other information about PSL can be found on its official website

Teams competing in the PSL this year are Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, Karachi Kings, Islamabad United, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans and Faisalabad Wolves. Out of these six teams Faisalabad Wolves have already qualified for the playoffs stage as they finished at the top of the table in the Regular Season which was played over eleven rounds.

The batting order for Islamabad United will look something like this: Sarfraz Ahmed, Shoaib Malik, Asif Ali, Mohammad Hafeez, Umar Akmal, Babar Azam, Hasan Ali, Wahab Riaz (captain), Imad Wasim.

The bowling attack for Islamabad United will be led by Rahat Ali and Mitchell McClenaghan.
